Some more thoughts ...

"Buddhist teachers may have arrived in the third century BC because there
is evidence that the Qin Emperor ordered the destruction of the religion
about 213 BC. "

"*Qin Shi Huang* (Chinese <https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinese_language>

 ) or *Shihuangdi*(Chinese
<https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinese_language>: 始皇帝; literally: "First
Emperor") (18 February 259 BC – 10 September 210 BC) was the founder of the Qin
dynasty <https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qin_dynasty> (秦朝) and was the first
emperor of a unified China
<https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emperor_of_China>. "

"The *Terracotta Army* is a collection of terracotta
<https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terracotta>sculptures depicting the armies
of Qin Shi Huang <https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qin_Shi_Huang>, the
first Emperor
of China <https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emperor_of_China>. It is a form
of funerary art <https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Funerary_art>buried with
the emperor in 210–209 BCE and whose purpose was to protect the emperor in
his afterlife".

Perhaps a real person, responsible for persecutions of Buddhist monks
during his life, formed the model for a Terracotta Warrior,
- "cursed" by a Buddha to be reborn as his own effigy and to reflect on
impermenace of of the self.

It has been hundreds of years but he has given up just enough of his stone
self to move.

Yeah, skip the entire Solar, Lunar, Sidereal etc. stuff. As good as the
background is, this is mythic China.

Now whilst the traditional Journey to the West series were supernatural
characters who had been expelled from the heavens, I am more inclined to
take the Exalted rules as humans that have been given supernatural powers.

Which can mean that they will embody part of personality of the benefactor.

Now the least of potential benefactors is... rather big.
